Our customer has been using monitor and PC products in heavy weather conditions at sea for years. After internal evaluation of their current monitors, our customer opted to simplify the operation of their application. For this, they required a different monitor solution than the one they already had, which was also supplied by us. After discussing the options, a panel PC was selected as the perfect solution. The panel PC could be used in the same harsh conditions as their current monitors.
These panel PCs are used in challenging weather conditions and need to be very reliable and function at all times. The biggest challenge is protecting the PCs from dust, liquid and corrosion. On top of that, readability of the screen has to be perfect in both day and night time. As well as dimmable and resistant to heat and cold (-20 to +55 degrees Celsius). Because there is no possibility for a fan to cool down the system, the panel PCs required fanless cooling.

How we helped
Our product specialist Martijn Bustraan was ready to accept the challenge to find a solution that fit our customer’s wishes and requirements. He immediately started researching the different options.
This project took a number of steps. Firstly, the customer tested two samples. The samples were tested extensively at a test location. As these tests showed very positive results, the customers has now proceded to purchasing a small number of panel PCs for a first roll out.
The final solution was found in an integrated panel PC. We chose 15 inch rugged panel PCs with a fanless Core-i5 2.2GHz CPU and a 15 inch TFT-LCD with full dimmable 1000 nits brightness and resistive touchscreen.
The PC enclosures are IP67, dust and waterproof design and are made of aluminum which had an anti-corrosion treatment. These panel PCs are resistant to extreme temperatures of -25 up to +55 degrees Celsius. On top of that they can be connected to a variable DC voltage of 9 to 36V.
